We are thrilled to celebrate the Central Virginia Agrarian Commons on another meaningful step toward expanding equitable access to land.

Through a new land access initiative in Henrico County, Virginia, 61 acres of farmland have been permanently protected through a conservation easement, ensuring the land will remain available for agriculture rather than future development. This milestone creates new opportunities for Black farmers and communities of color to access, steward, and benefit from the land for generations to come.

Led by the Central Virginia Agrarian Community Land Trust, this effort reflects what is possible when communities come together around a shared commitment to land stewardship. By combining affordable access to farmland with farmer training, housing opportunities, and long-term conservation, the initiative is creating pathways for new farmers while strengthening the local food system.

Land access remains one of the greatest barriers facing beginning and historically underserved farmers. Projects like this demonstrate that another path is possible—one where land is cared for as a shared community resource and where future generations have the opportunity to farm, build livelihoods, and remain connected to place.

Congratulations to the Central Virginia Agrarian Commons, its partners, and the many community members whose vision and dedication made this achievement possible. Your work continues to show how community stewardship can expand opportunity, protect farmland, and cultivate a more just and resilient future.

We look forward to seeing the lasting impact this land will have on farmers, families, and the Central Virginia community for years to come.
